The largest part of the population is rural and lives from foods crops or from fishing. Nevertheless, the islands export vanilla, ylang-ylang and clove. The country is not self-sufficient in food. The economic situation, though, is very difficult. It is also noteworthy that the Comorian Diaspora is very concerned about the welfare of the population and contributes by sending money regularly in the country.
The shortages are chronic: water, electricity, petrol, and sometimes also some basic products come to short.
A report from the World Bank suggests that campaigns organize also alimentary scarcity of local products to sustain prices.
Tourism and adequate infrastructures are under developed, but the Comoro Islands are a kindness place.
