Travel to Mauritius > Visa Requirements
Bonifide visitors/tourist may be granted a permit to stay in Mauritius for a maximum period not exceeding six months in a calendar year provided they meet the following immigration criteria:
- hold a valid passport, where expiry date is at least six months beyond the date of stay,
- hold a valid return or onward tickets to country of origin or residence,
- have confirmed booking for accommodation i.e.(hotel, or if sponsored by a Mauritian Citizen, to produce evidence of sponsorship, stating name, address, profession, relationship, National Identity Card and telephone number)
- have sufficient funds to meet the cost of stay i.e. (100 Us Dollars per night) are eligible to re-enter country of origin/residence,
- do not engage in any gainful activities.
Application form should be sent with:
Two recent passport size photographs, photocopy of data pages of passport and photocopy of residence/Re-Entry visa with 3 months validity where applicable.
An average of five working days is required for processing application for a visa provided all relevant documents are submitted.
No visa required for:
- holders of passports issued by the following countries:
Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Botswana, Brunei, Darussalam, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominica, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Grenada, Guyana, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kuwait, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Monaco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Qatar, Samoa (Western), San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Solomon Islands, Spain, St.Christopher, Nevis, St.Lucia, St.Vincent & Grenadines, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and dependent territories, United States of America, Vanuatu, Vatican, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
- as from October 2004, Nationals of Republic of India, People's Republic of China, Jordan and Lebanon visiting Mauritius on holidays for a period of stay up to fifteen days. They should apply and obtain a visa before undertaking any travel to Mauritius if they intend to stay for more that 15 days and for any other purpose.
- as from November 2004, visa requirements are waived for nationals of the new Member States of the European Union, namely: Czech Republic, Estonian Republic, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Republic of Latvia, Republic of Lithuania, Slovenia, Poland.
- visa of two weeks may be granted on arrival in Mauritius to Nationals of : Albania, Bulgaria, Comores, Fiji, Madagascar, Romania, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Kyrgystan, Republic of Moldova, The Russian Federation, Republic Tadjikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Republic of Uzbekistan and also Georgia.
- visa of three moths may be granted on arrival in Mauritius to nationals of: Argentina , Brazil , Chilie , Paraguay .
- visa for sixteen days may be granted on arrival to nationals of Republic of Korea .
- nationals of all other countries require a visa to enter Mauritius .
- a transit visa may be granted to a passenger travelling to a third country, provided he leaves by the first available connecting flight. If the transit exceeds 24 hours, visa should be obtained before travelling.
Note: The final decision to admit a passenger into Mauritius rest solely on the Immigration Authorities after examination at the Points of Entry.
