Born there is nearly 3 million years, and located in the Indian Ocean by 21° of southern latitude and 55° of longitude, the island forms part of the archipelago of the Mascareignes.

The center of the island consists of two volcanic solid masses, the Piton des Neiges (volcano at the origin of the creation of the island, its climax is located at 3069 m) located in the south-west and the Piton de la Fournaise (2632m) located in the south-east.
